What you need to know about breast implants

What you need to know about breast implants | Cosmetic Surgeons | Scoop.it

Today a shocking report into Australia's most popular cosmetic surgery providerrevealed six patients undergoing breast implant surgery had life threatening complications. The Cosmetic Institute is also accused of knocking patients out without their consent, and administering drugs at a dangerously high level.

In an industry where the difference between a cosmetic and a plastic surgeon can be seven years of training - what questions should you be asking before you let anyone near you with a scalpel?

It might feel weird to ask your doctor about cosmetic surgery - you probably normally see them about the flu, not whether you look hot in a bikini. But if your doctor is a good one, they should give you unbiased advice on who you should speak to about surgery and whether it's right for you.

Tighter regulation of cosmetic surgery needed, breast implant patient says | Cosmetic Surgeons | Scoop.it

A woman who was rushed to hospital after her lung was punctured during routine cosmetic surgery has called for tighter regulation of the multibillion-dollar industry.

Krystle Morgan from Barrack Heights, south of Wollongong, had a breast enlargement procedure at The Cosmetic Institute in Bondi in September 2014 and was short of breath when she awoke from surgery. She was transferred to St Vincent's Hospital where she was treated for a collapsed lung.

She told Fairfax Media she was shocked to learn for the first time on Tuesday that she had been given an unsafe cocktail of drugs and said she had no idea the cosmetic surgery industry was largely unregulated.

Would You Consider Botox for Your Teen's Tough Chronic Headaches? | Cosmetic Surgeons | Scoop.it

Headaches in children and young adults are more common than people think — and, in younger patients, they can also be tough to treat. When other therapies fail, doctors may consider an interesting therapy: Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) injections.

Headaches in younger patients can vary in type. Among 15- to-17-year-olds, about 10 percent have migraines — severe headaches that cause sensitivity to light and noise, nausea and vomiting.

Would you tell your husband you’re getting Botox?

Would you tell your husband you’re getting Botox? | Cosmetic Surgeons | Scoop.it

“IT’S TIME,” my practitioner declares as I exit her consulting room after one of my standard skin sessions. Her comment hits me off guard with its non-negotiable full stop. “Just a bit between your eyebrows,” she continues, her unmoving face trying its best to reassure me. “Add it to your next appointment.”

I always knew this day would come. All through my 20s I’d been surrounded by colleagues whose faces defied nature by appearing smoother the more they aged. I knew deep down I’d eventually join their club and be lured by the fountain-of-youth promise of a Botox pinprick.

PSYCHOLOGICAL assessments and cooling off periods will become mandatory for some people contemplating cosmetic surgery, under new guidelines aimed at better protecting vulnerable patients.

The Medical Board of Australia will today announce changes governing Australia’s cosmetic surgery industry from October 1, with a focus on safeguarding teenagers.

Under the guidelines teenagers seeking major cosmetic surgery — such as breast enlargements, nose surgery, face lifts and other operations where cutting occurs below the skin — will have to undergo a psychological assessment before waiting through a three-month cooling-off period. Adults face a seven-day cooling off period before they can have a major procedure.

GOING under the knife in March for her first breast augmentation didn’t scare 29-year-old Jessica Wilson. After all, the Brooklyn, N.Y., woman had vicariously experienced countless similar surgeries for months before her own — on her plastic surgeon’s Snapchat.

“I would do it again,” Wilson told FoxNews.com. “If I had another surgery, I’d definitely let him Snapchat it.”

Celebrity doctors are nothing new, but the man who operated on Wilson, Dr. Matthew Schulman, is part of a growing handful of internet-famous surgeons cropping up on the social media app Snapchat. Fortune estimated in January that more than seven billion videos are shared through the app daily.

It may be a miracle in a bottle and the ultimate wrinkle eraser, but do you really know what’s going on when a single dose of any neuromodulator (Botox, Dysport or Xeomin) gets injected?

Neuromodulators temporarily inhibit the nerves that signal certain muscles to contract. Once these muscles are weakened, they can’t make the movements that cause lines and wrinkles (you can still make facial expressions, but they may not be as exaggerated).

Cosmetic Surgery to Remove Body Weight

Cosmetic Surgery to Remove Body Weight | Cosmetic Surgeons | Scoop.it

Elizabeth Mahoney, 46, began her weight loss journey when she was tipping 115 kilograms on the scales. She now weighs a healthy 67 kilograms after choosing to undergo bariatric surgery in 2014.

It is the intervention called upon when all other lifestyle treatment options have failed. Over 15,000 weight loss procedures (including gastric banding, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy) were performed in Australia between July 2014 and June 2015.

Top4's insight:

The reason why you have your weight back after several months of diet programme is that your brain has the ability to naturally keep human body strong enough to stay alive. In order to build it strong, it leads you to eat and sometimes it goes over what you should take.

Weight loss surgery may be one of the options to remove the fat from your body but it is not a long term intervention. You still need to maintain your health and control your diet even if you lose some weights post-surgery.

You should visit this page which will guide you to choose the right invasive procedure to lose your weight and give you recommendation on the right treatment based on your condition. To book a consultation session with the professionals, please visit this page.
